Gerard Riu starts 11th and Iñigo Iglesias 23rd
After five weeks away from competition, our team is already at full steam to approach the last date of the calendar before the summer break. MotorLand Aragon is a circuit with strong emotions and an opportunity, especially for Moto2 because of the two Sunday races, to create a distance in the fight for the championship. Regarding our riders, all three arrive at the best moment of the season.
Edgar is leader of the category with 33 points of difference regarding his direct pursuer, Tuuli. He has had three consecutive triumphs and expects to continue with the same dynamics in the Aragon circuit. In Moto3, our riders offered their best version in Barcelona and will try to go a step further tomorrow: Gerard Riu will try to continue closing in on the podium and Iñigo Iglesias, will try to be in the points area.
Regarding today’s session, Edgar Pons was once again the fastest in Moto2. He has dominated the two official sessions and has easily taken the pole. In the morning he managed a great lap and, in the afternoon, due to track conditions, he preferred not taking risks. Despite all that, he finally finished 1st. His double race of tomorrow will allow him to establish differences in the championship, and our rider will work hard to achieve them.
Gerard Riu, in turn, was close to the top 10 on the starting grid but form his Saturday we must take the rhythm he has shown, not so much with any specific lap. The rider from Catalonia knows what to do to be in the leading group at the start of the race and if he manages that, we will see him remarkably close to the podium.
Finally, Iñigo Iglesias will try to climb from the 23rd position. A complicated Saturday, likewise, for Riu, due to the traffic he has found every time he was on the track. Looking at tomorrow, he should take advantage and gain positions from the start, to be in the group he looks for because of race rhythm.
Tomorrow our riders, will have three races two for Edgar Pons and one for Moto3. The smallest category will start at 13:00 and those of Moto2, at 11:00 and at 14:00.
Edgar Pons 1st (QP1: 1st / QP2: 1st) 1:53.658: “Today has been positive. In the morning we have made a competitive time. In the afternoon we wanted to make several modifications to the bike to try some things, but due to the wind and some rain, I decided not to take risks. We were first in both timed sessions and I am confident of having a good setting for tomorrow. We only must expect the weather conditions we want because we have two races before us”.
Gerard Riu 11th) (QP1: 10th / QP2: 11th) 1:59.604: “It has been a positive day because from 11th position we had options for all the race. I have a sweet-n-sour taste because today I have not felt fully comfortable and I have not been able to make a good lap. We had good rhythm during the entire weekend and tomorrow I will try to join the leading group like I did in Barcelona. We will try for the Top 5 tomorrow”.
Iñigo Iglesias 21rd (QP1: 21st / QP2: 17th) 2:00.498: “It has been a complicated classification because in Moto3 it was hard to do a good lap. I am confident about tomorrow due to the rhythm I have had during the entire weekend and to the trust I have in my team. Tomorrow I expect we go from less to more and take advantage of the options that always appear in this first lap.
