He consolidates his lead in Moto2 with 111 points.
Spectacular Sunday for racing that we have experienced and enjoyed at the Barcelona-Catalonia Circuit. After a great Saturday session in the official timings, all lead to indicating that our pilots were prepared, and they have responded. In addition, they all complied with their own objectives: double triumph for Pons, 4th position Riu and the first points of the season for Iglesias.
But the name of the day is Edgar Pons. The Catalan rider started from the pole position and has not reduced rhythm at all. In both races he has marked differences since the start regarding his pursuers and has been able in both, of establishing a fast lap. Two victories that give him 50 new points in the general classification of Moto2, putting him at 33 points difference from the second classified, Tuuli.
Benny Solís has been the team rider with greater difficulties during the entire weekend, that was reflected in the races. In the morning race he finished 22nd and in the afternoon, he had to drop out in the 10th lap. A shame because he was in good physical condition. Now, his only objective is taking a step forward in the next race.
In Moto3, Gerard Riu has deployed all his potential. He started with good rhythm and that was noticed in the two races. In the morning, he was very close to the first podium of the season, finish 4th. And in the afternoon, in a similar race, he finished 6th. A great impulse for the young rider that is very convinced that this year he can be on the podium and become a member of the Top5.
And another happiness of the session, the first points for Iñigo Iglesias. The Basque rider already offered a good version in the timings of yesterday, and was confident of reaching the points area, and in the second race this became a reality. An injection of moral for the next races and that made him confident after starting the season with a broken collar bone. Zorionak!
Classification by races:
Now we have more than one until the next event of FIM CEV Repsol. It will be in MotorLand (Aragon), where our riders will try to consolidate their leadership in Moto2 or reach the podium for the first time in Moto3.
Edgar Pons (1st) + (1st): “I am very happy with this weekend. I must thank the ream for all the work they are doing. Not only this season, but also last season, working on the riding style and in the better setting for our bike. These results motivate us to continue working. Montmelo is not a circuit where I have ridden especially rapid during my trajectory, and obtaining these times and races is spectacular. My objective for the next event is to race to win and increase the difference with more rivals in the general classification”.
Benny Solis (22th) + (NC): “It has been an unforgettable weekend. We have faced very complicated challenges and we have not been able to resolve them for the race. It was difficult, but I want to learn several things this weekend. I feel very well, with illusion and riding for a great team to approach the next date in MotorLand”.
Gerard Riu (4th) + (6th): “It has been a great day. We have had two very competitive races, always in the top group. In both races the group became divided and I was in the rear part. I believe that we have taken a step forward, but there is still one more to reach the podium. From here, I want to congratulate my team for their effort during the weekend”
Iñigo Iglesias (21st) + (15th): “It has been a weekend for learning. In the first race I was looking for my rhythm, but with only one lap to finish, another rider has touched me, taking me out of the track and making me lose the progression of the race. In the afternoon, we finished satisfied. I was cleverer at the start, joining the group that I must be in for rhythm until finishing 15th. It has been a good weekend to continue learning and improving”.
