EDGAR PONS STARTS AS LEADER IN VALENCIA

EDGAR PONS STARTS AS LEADER IN VALENCIA

Pons adds his first victory of the season in a very tactical race.

Great Sunday for racing we have seen in Valencia. Yesterday’s session allowed expecting the first triumph of the season and Edgar Pons did not miss taking advantage of the opportunity. A triumph that serves to lead the Motos2 category, with 16 points advantage regarding Tuuli.

And this is because Edgar Pons has been the fastest and most dependable rider of Moto2 during the entire weekend.  His sensations have been magnificent in each training and that has materialised in the race. Although starting from the pole position, it has not been easy, the tyres have worn, and the Catalonian pilot had to reduce his rhythm even in the last laps and offer his best version in the two finals. A worthy victory and that gave him his first victory of the season, that added to two podiums of Estoril, leave him in the highest classification of Moto2.

In turn, Benny Solís has finished 17th.  And in view of his physical condition after the fall of Friday, this can be classified as successful. During yesterday’s session he had some difficulties to get on his bike, but Benny is a rider with a great heart and today he has fought to reach the area of points and leave Valencia with a smile. Now recover!

In Moto3, Gerard Riu had to drop out of both races. In the first he went to the ground during the second lap and in the afternoon, an electrical failure of the bike impeded him from completing the recovery he wanted so much. Surely in the next event he will manage to complete a great weekend, because the teamwork is being good.

Classification by races:

Race 1 of Moto3

Race 2 of Moto3

Race of Moto2

Now we have three weeks in front until the next race of the championship. On this occasion, we will leave the peninsula to travel to the classical Le Mans circuit in France, where only the Moto3 riders will race. Pons and Solis will have their return to the Championship in June.

Edgar Pons (1st): “I am happy for the race and the weekend.  I was first in each training and the same in the race. But it has not been easy. We have made a change in the bike thinking that the track temperature will progressively increase, but finally it did not as we thought. During the race, the tyre has worn quite a lot and i decide to drop my rhythm so that Hector would think I only had that much. But in the last two laps I pushed hard and reached the last with a margin. Congratulations to all the team for their work. Leaving here as leaders is an injection of energy”

Benny Solís (17th): “I am not happy finishing 17th, but yes for giving the best considering my hip conditions. The team has given me a particularly good bike and did all that is possible to make my race as easy as it could. Now I have weeks to recover and plan the next meeting in Montmelo”.

Gérard Riu (Retired/ Retired): “It has been a difficult day for us. In the Warm Up we had good sensations, but I have not been able to carry them over to the race. During the first race I had a fall in the second lap due to my own failure. During the second I was confident of being at the front, but an electrical problem in the bike during the first part of the race made me drop out. A pity because we are working very well.  In the next one, more and better”.
