EDGAR PONS DOMINATES IN CHESTE

EDGAR PONS DOMINATES IN CHESTE

The Catalonian rider will try for the first win of the season tomorrow starting from pole position.

After a weekend of rest, the FIM CEV Repsol arrives at one of the most classical motorcycling circuits. Cheste. A highly valuated track by riders and teams, that always offer great moments. And all this indicates, regarding the results of our riders in the official timing, that tomorrow we can enjoy, and why not, reaching the podium.

The rider who started with great force is, without any doubt, Edgar Pons. After being on the podium in Estoril on two occasions, he arrived with the ambition of gaining the pole and tomorrow trying to assure the first triumph of the season. And from the start he has shown that he has an adequate rhythm. In QP1 he made the best time of the day, lapping in 1:35.773. One half second quicker that the second rider: Garzo. In QP2 he was also the quickest, although not lapping at less than 1:35. A slower session regarding that of the morning due to track temperature.

On the other hand, Benny Solís has experienced a Saturday session with more complications. A fall in yesterday’s session has complicated his options and impedes 100% performance. In both sessions he finished outside of the Top20, but we all know the potential of our rider and the heart he must try to recuperate.

In Moto3, we have only had the participation of Gerard Ríu, after confirming the injury of Iñigo Iglesias. The doctors have decided that he must continue the recuperation of his collarbone and indicates the LeMans event in May as a date for his return. Regarding to Gerard, tomorrow he starts from 16th position, very near the points area. He obtained his best timing in the morning, and this could have happened if he had not come up against a lot of traffic when trying for his own fastest lap. After his exhibition only two weeks ago in Portugal and good teamwork, we trust that tomorrow he makes us happy.

Edgar Pons 1st (QP1: 1st / QP2: 1st) 1:35.773: “It has been a great day. It was very important to achieve the pole tomorrow and pleasing the team. this afternoon we lapped slower due to track temperature, that complicated obtaining good times. I am happy because of the morning time, at the level of those obtained in the World Championship. I have made some modifications to the bike because I want to have a perfect feeling, dedicating three quarters of QP2 to that. But in the last stage I lapped with new tyres and with good sensations. I am confident about tomorrow. My objective is to make a great first lap and try to open a space with my rivals”.

Benny Solís 23rd (QP1: 23rd / QP2: 22nd) 01:39.485: “It has been a difficult day for us. Yesterday we had a big hide and I have many problems to get on the bike. I cannot walk without crutches, but I have decided to try in the QP. It has not been bad considering the situation. We will see how I feel tomorrow morning and I will try to give everything in my race”

Gerard Riu 17th (QP1: 16th / QP2: 10th) 01:40.531: In my case we have worked very well all weekend and we have had a great reward today. I feel very comfortable with the bike, but the time attack has not been good due to traffic on the track. We trust in making a great race and obtaining the recuperation, to reach leading positions”
