DOUBLE PODIUM FOR EDGAR PONS!

DOUBLE PODIUM FOR EDGAR PONS!

Benny Solis manages to finish 8th in the second race, his best result in Moto2.

A great Sunday for races we have had in Estoril. After an intense and productive session on Saturday, our riders have met the expectations, based on the objectives fixed yesterday, after official classification. And that even though weather conditions have not gotten any better, and Sunday there was lots of rain.

Edgar Pons has given us two consecutive joys, being on the podium in both races. In the morning race, he finished 2nd, just behind Tuuli. Starting from pole position, he went from worse to better, an as he found the feeling with the bike, he started gaining positions and consolidating his position on the podium, until concluding with 12 seconds advantage over his immediate pursuer.

And in the afternoon the rider from Catalonia kept his ambition intact. An event in which he marked the fastest lap, right in the last lap, when victory was in play.  Third position for him which consolidates him in the first positions of the general classification.

On the other hand, Benny Solís has left the best for the final. In the first race he went to the ground in the last sector of the third lap, being obliged to retire and save energy for the afternoon event.  And on this occasion, he did very well. Always in the leading group, the North American rider justified his 8th position, corroborating the good time he made in the Saturday session. In addition, this result is his best position in the category and with our team, therefore, Congratulations Benny!

In Moto3, Gerard Riu has demonstrated in the only race of the day, that he has the rhythm to be among the best. After an engine failure that made him come out in 24th position, the Spanish rider has offered a great recuperation to finish 11th, at the door of the Top 10, and improving by 13 positions regarding when he left the race. A show of the good news that we can expect from this rider.

Now we have in front two weeks to prepare and arrive in the best condition to the Chest Circuit in Valencia on Sunday 28th of April. Where the Moto3 riders will have two races, and only one for Moto2.

Edgar Pons (2nd / 3rd): “I am happy for all the weekend. In the morning we finished 2nd, and that is an important result, because I have never been especially rapid in water. In addition, it says a lot about the work we have done to have a good setting and, in my case, feel comfortable on the track. In the second race it took me some time to get the feeling because the track was still not 100% of conditions, and it was difficult for the tyres to get hot. Bit by bit I managed to take third position. The key was to achieve the maximum of points possible in this overly complicated circuit and we leave second in the general. From now on I will fight to win all the next races”.

Benny Solis (Retired / 8th): Sunday has gone very well, I am happy with the result, fighting for sixth position.  This second race taught me a lot. I had the rhythm to be sixth, but when I arrived, I made a mistake and lost positions. I believe that this experience will make me a better rider in the next races. I am happy with the bike, the team and in Valencia we will try to be the best”.

Gerard Riu (11th): “It has been a positive day. Despite the rainy conditions, in the morning warm-up I felt comfortable with the bike, finishing second. During the race I started calmly, with the main objective of finishing and looking for my opportunity.  During the initial laps I was at the back, but as time passed my sensations got better, until I finished 11th.  I am happy at how we have worked during all the weekend. I have a lot of expectations about enjoying the next race”.
